Walden Pond

The ponds on the farms where I grew up were fairly small, sometimes stocked with fish, but easily viewed from one side to another. I anticipated that the infamous Walden Pond in Massachusetts would be the same. No. Is it really a pond? Surely it is a lake! Especially after hiking the perimeter, with frequent areas of sandy beach hugging the edges of beautiful colored water, my mind refuses to accept that this is a pond.
